Spring term 2020 - Land of the Free

In English we will be reading 'Trash.' This is based in South America, which links to our topic. We will be improving our reading skills using 'VIPERS,' which stands for vocabulary, inference, prediction, explaining, retrieval and summarising. We will be continuing to write for a variety of different audiences and purposes, including writing reports, setting descriptions and classic poems.

In Maths we will be focusing on Shape and Measure, aswell as continuing to secure our skills and understanding of arithmetic.

In Science we will be learning about the reversible and irreversible changes in materials. Then we will be learning more about living things and their habitats and how they adapt to their surroundings.

As part of our topic on 'The Americas' in Geography we will be studying North America in detail and comparing and contrasting it with the UK. This will include studying maps, comparing and contrasting human and physical features and investigating patterns.

In History and Art we will be studying Native American cultures. We are looking forward to learning about American artists and using their style to create landscapes, paintings and collage. In Design and Technology we will also be learning more about the design process by researching different designers and architects and designing, making and evaluating our own product (a dream catcher).

In French we are using adjectives to describe nouns, identifying parts of the body, times of day and the weather.

In R.E. we will be learning about Faith Founders and comparing the rituals and artefacts in Spring festivals.

In PSHCE we will be learning how to cope with different feelings and emotions, different relationships and friendships. In addition to this we will be learning about money (including debt), careers and enterprising.

In Music we will spend one half term learning about and then performing a ballad. In the second half term we will be studying rap and hip-hop music, concluding with a final performance which we will add to Seesaw.

You will find the 'sticky knowledge' on the class Seesaw page and in the attached PDF further up this page. Sticky knowledge is what we want the children to know by the end of the term.

We have started using an app called Seesaw to share learning with families. 

Please make sure you've asked for a log on so that you can see what we've been doing in class.

PE

PE will be on a Tuesday and Thursday afternoon. 

Please make sure that your child has PE kit in school on those days.

Parent Pay

From September, we will be using Parent Pay as the main system for paying for school meals (KS2), clubs and trips.   You will be receiving further information when the system is set up.

We won't be receiving any cash into school once Parent Pay is up and running.  

Please see Mrs Morton if you would like some help setting Parent Pay up on your phone.
